There are so many scammers on Craigslist! When I first started posting things that I wanted to sell I would get messages from scamsters saying that they were far away on a job, but they wanted to purchase the item I had for sale. They were okay with the asking price and condition of the item. They wanted to pay me through PayPal because they didn't have online access to their bank account due to being away. They would have someone to pick the item up for them. They wanted my PayPal account information so they could make payment through it. What a crock! I could tell right away that it was some kind of a scam!
Even though I could tell right away that it was some kind of a scam, I'm sure there's been a lot of people that couldn't, and went through with it, or atleast tried.
The scamsters are probably up to some of these skeems:
1. They pay you with a real PayPal account, but ask you to send the item to a different address than what is listed on the PayPal account. If you do as they ask and they got your item, they'll file a chargeback and say they never got the item. It doesn't matter if you have proof that you sent it to the address they asked you to send it to. PayPal gives you no sort of protection if you send it to a different address than what is listed on the PayPal account.
2. They pay you with a hacked PayPal account and the money is put into your account. But once you send the item the real account holder reports the theft and PayPal will take the money right back out of your account. Now you don't have your item or the money you needed!
3. They send a fake email from PayPal telling you the money has been sent to you and a link for you to click on for you to confirm it. The link directs you to a real looking, but fake PayPal site where you log in all your information. Then the scamster has your information, hacks your account, and takes your money.
There's a few other things they're doing with the PayPal skeem, but you get the point. Do not use PayPal when it comes to Craigslist! Always use cash and meet the person in public if possible.
People can be so downright dirty! A lot of people on Craigslist are selling their items because they need the money. Scamsters don't care if they take your last penny! It's awful how dirty people can be!
I just listed a couple things on Craigslist a couple weeks ago and I got all kinds of emails asking me for my direct email address. I knew right away that was a scam, too! I kept getting the emails asking for my direct email address when they could contact me through Craigslist or by calling my phone number I listed on my ad.
I guess this is a newer one they use to try to get your information, so maybe they can go undetected by Craigslist.
Don't fall for it!!!
Craigslist scammers want your money!
If they get it, it could be costly!
Those dirty scamsters make me so angry!
How can people be so greedy?!
How can someone be so dirty & without a conscious?!
Because, all they care about is filling their pockets,
and are just cold, and heartless.
They just make me want to cringe!
Whatever you do, don't let them win!
Just don't deal with people like that on Craigslist.
Bend over and tell them to give your behind a big kiss!
